Andrea Yates

Ooooooooo, let's talk about Andrea Yates.
I read the article ( http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/06/27/yates.trial.ap/index.html ) today about her. She kills her 5 kids. Plain and simple. She even says she did it. She all but put up a billboad on the nearest interstate saying she killed her own kids.

So whyyyyy on earth are the Powers-That-Be giving her a second chance???

The PTB say that they want to see if she was crazy enough to know right from wrong at the time. How about this... if she didn't know right from wrong, then she won't notice the lethal injection/gas chamber method being used on her for killing her kids.

I might, possibly, be willing to consider a second chance had she said that someone did it... but she didn't say anybody else did it!

Her kids will never get the chance to sit up and say, "well, gee, she might not have known what she was doing". Yates said she killed them, the prosecution proved she killed them yet the PTB still have issues with it. I am having trouble with the validity of this defense. I'm not really quibbling over whether they give her a death sentence or a life sentence. She did the wrong thing, one of the most horrible wrong things, and the PTB want to talk it out. So what if she didn't know it was 'wrong'? What are they going to do with her, send her to a mental hospital, smack her on the hand and send her back out into the world with more kids? Who in their right mind would want her around their kids, thinking that she may one day revert back to "uhhhh, don't know right from wrong, duhhhhhhhh"??

This second trial thing is ridiculous. They are trotting out the deceased childrens' pictures in front of more and more people. There is no dignity in death and this is just heaping the injustice on top. She, as a person, gave up her right to be treated as a human being when she committed this crime. As per the laws of the land, she needs to be punished in a manner befitting her crime as do 99% of the other criminals. What makes her so special?
