Fishing and Grandmama

My husband and I went fishing today. I caught the biggest fish I've ever caught.

I think I sent the pictures out to everybody I knew and those I don't. LOL

The bass was 14" long. Barely a keeper by our state law.
The catfish (the one over the net next to the ruler) was about
18" long. We didn't keep either as these were the only ones
that were big enough to keep. It's not enough for a mess for a fish fry. No hush puppies tonight.
We were out on the water for 6 1/2 hrs, trolling for about 5 hrs. That's just perfect for me. Not too long, not too short. If the mosquitoes (skeeters!) hadn't come out and it hadn't gotten colder, we'd have stayed a bit longer. Oh, I forgot. I caught the fish on my oldest son's little rod'n'reel with cork and Canadian Nightcrawler. I thought I had caught a log that was giving me a run for my money. LOL Bill Dance, eat your heart out! (rofl!!)
We came in about sunset. My husband cuts off the boat motor and tells me that we're out of gas. We were about 75 yards from the marina dock. OMG. He really pulled one on me because we still had an extra full gas can. Bah. I was thinking about having to row that boat back to shore. Yuck.
I had checked msgs on my home phone all day. I just *knew* there would be an emergency at the nursing home with either daddy or granddaddy while we were out on the water. We were 45 minutes (driving time) away from home and the nursing home is 20 more minutes from my house (driving at 70 mph...LOL). Once we were loading up the boat, I checked again and my grandmama had called. To hear her voice, which was slightly upset, I could feel my heart hit my stomach. She starts out with, "Honey? Where are you? Are you having trouble? (she knew we were going fishing) I just wanted to know if you were ok and why haven't you gotten my mail yet?" Her MAIL???? AAAAA!!!!!!!!!! I get sick in the pit of stomach over her mail???
I took a deep breath.
And another.
LOL
I didn't call her back right away. I wanted to finish helping my husband load and tie down the boat. Grandmama thought (undoubtedly) that this was taking too long and proceeded to call my cell and my husband's cell several times. We didn't hear it because we were working on the boat.
She left another, panic-stricken voice mail on my husband's phone. I was finally able to call her about 30 minutes later to assure her that I was on my way home to get her mail, which, btw, was one piece of junk mail. I really am not complaining. It's just an example of how my day can go weird in a blink of an eye. I think the meds she takes is starting to affect her thinking. She got almost hysterical one day because my daughter forgot to vacuum her living room. Sigh.
All in all it was an excellent day. The kids were at my sister's house with my mother. I got to go fishing, caught nice fish and came home to a nice, quiet (yet dirty still!) house.
And the best part? I got to talk to a good friend on email (and she let me brag for hours!). She is an awesome listener!
