Thanksgiving

The food was good. Maybe too good. My belly tells me that and has been chanting it for some time now.

What did we have?

Turkey, baked in the oven
Pulled Boston Butt, smoked over pecan and hickory wood (niiiiiiice!)
BBQ slaw and sauce (lexington style, not that eastern stuff)
Turkey gravy
Dressing Balls
Green Beans
Corn (frozen but from our garden this past summer)
Potato Salad (not the warm german stuff)
Parker House style rolls, deliciously over-buttered!
Deviled Eggs
Cranberry Sauce
Cherry Cheese Pie
Pumpkin Roll
Italian Creme Cake

Not as much as Christmas dinner but a nice warm-up. There were 12 of us eating this food and we still had food left. Of course, a good bit of it went home with grandparents. They can eat on it for a day or two.

Graciously, my sister (and her family) came down and she helped ALOT. I couldn't be here to clean the house or to finish fixing anything. I had bought everything a few days ago. I got the cherry cheese pie, bbq sauce and the dressing balls done ahead of time. My daughter and her friend, under the supervision of my grandmother, got the slaw made yesterday. My mother had made the pumpkin roll, cake, and cranberry sauce a few days ago so the flavors could meld. My sister didn't have much left to do but with 7 kids running around the house, it made it a bit harder for her.

We all missed granddaddy. It wasn't the same but the last several holidays have been all different. It's hard because I grew up with so many grandparents in my home on holidays, year after year. Now they are all going away, one by one. It makes one wonder which ones will be with us the next year.

I am thankful for the ones I had with me this year, no matter that I spent most of it at the hospital. I couldn't have asked for better. It can always be worse. I could have spent it at the funeral home.

I just called to check on granddaddy. He is down to 95% O2 sat on 3 liters with no temp yet. One more small step in the right direction. He is not out of the woods yet but he can see the edge of the forest.

I can also say I was thankful for the beautiful day and the lack of traffic. It made getting there and getting back home sooooo much easier. Tomorrow will be a completely different day. I'm glad I'm not a shopper but I'll be out there on the roads with the shoppers.

Happy Thanksgiving all....
