Yes, I have bats in my belfry.
This morning I thought I had a bat in my basement.
I had been sitting in my 'office'/basement for about 3 1/2 hrs. I had gotten up at 5am. Why? I don't know. I just couldn't sleep. It was 8:30 when I heard one of the cats running around like mad. She was causing quite a ruckus. I didn't know what she was doing but I didn't want her to wake anyone upstairs. I was working on my Christmas cards and playing on the computer, generally trying to enjoy some quiet time.
I walked around to see what Flossy was up to.
I saw something grayish-brown fly up to the ceiling.
My big butt ran up the stairs, into the bedroom where my husband and son were asleep. I shook my husband, breathlessly telling him that of all the things that had been in the basement, a bat was something I never expected to see, especially at that time of the day. My son, the 5 yr old, immediately jumps up, excited to see a bat. His daddy, however, was a bit slower.
I came back downstairs with a camera, looking for the bat.
Both of them had to make pit stops by the bathroom. What is that, a male thing???
By the time they came down, I had found the animal. It was a bird! How did I mistake it for a bat??? No, I didn't have anything to drink the night before. I think the stress is catching up with me. LOL
I was watching the bird sitting on the garage/basement door. I didn't want to open it yet because it was sitting on a cable very close to the pulley. My husband says, "why don't you just open the door?".
Sigh.
I open the door and eventually the bird flies out.
My husband is walking through the basement, grumbling that he had to get up for a bird.
My son had gotten on the computer after surmising that it wasn't that interesting after all.
I felt bad that I had gotten them up over a bird.
As I walk back toward my son, he looks up at me, with his big blue eyes and says,
"Mom, next time, tell the TRUTH.".
As if I really wanted them down here to intrude on my quiet time for no reason.
AAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!! MEN!!!!!

Quick Granddaddy Update:
He's down to 1 1/2 liters of oxygen at 95% sat. No temp. Still very weak but I expect that to last a long time. Cross your fingers he keeps doing better and gets to go back to the nursing home soon.

An interesting tidbit:
Granddaddy's internal doctor is the son of my sister's pediatrician. What makes that interesting is this:
1. My sister lives 2 1/2 - 3 hrs away.
2. I live about 25 mins from the hospital.
Small world....
