Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh......... all's quiet on the home front at the moment.
Let's not rock the boat, shall we?
I've been busy, busy, busy just like everybody else. Hustle and bustle, that's me!
LOL
Granddaddy #2 came out of the hospital on Friday, Dec 15th. I was happy to get him out of there, get him home and get back to my home. Grandmama #2 had worked my nerves something awful last week. I had whole heartedly planned on never, ever taking her anywhere else again. What I had not planned on, however, was my inability to say "NO". At least we don't have anything planned real soon. I needed a break from her.
Since I spent my week running between the hospital, my house, her house, grandmama #1's house and the nursing home, I was trying to play catch-up here at home. I finished up my shopping on Saturday. I detest shopping and even worse when it's crowded but I lifted my chin and braved the crowds. I was proud of myself for not flipping anybody off not once! :o)
I started baking, cooking and cleaning this weekend. I didn't get far but I made a dent. That's good. I spent today trying to figure out a good recipe for pecan pralines. My first batch was a dud. The second was better. Will try it again. I also experimented with a new cheeseball recipe (the kind of cheeseball where I add a little of this, a little of that). I have to give it at least a day for the flavors to meld before I can pass judgement.
This past weekend, my mother baked and cooked like a mad woman. She got 3 batches of sausage balls done, 3 turns of cranberry salad, a batch of something like Clark Bars and 2 cheeseballs made. That woman can wreck a kitchen. She can cook really well but uses every single pot, pan, dish and piece of silverware available. She also doesn't like to clean up after she gets done but I had to put my foot down. We all got in and helped. She has a tendancy to run off once it's time to clean up but stayed this time since I said it wasn't fair for us to do alllllll of those dishes.
Today I took grandmama #1 to the doctor today for a follow-up. It turned out pretty good I think. Her PT was a very nice 2.7.
Grandmama #2 called and left a msg (which is a first for her since she doesn't like answering machines). She said granddaddy #2 was cooperating and using the honey-thickened liquid. It's not thickened with actual honey, just to that thickness. The muscles of his throat and tongue are very weak so for every swallow of thin liquid he made, half of it was going into his lungs. That causes that not-so-nice aspiration pneumonia. I had explained to gd#2 (for 20 mins!) why he had to use this stuff. He agreed. By the time he got home, he decided he didn't need it anymore. My step-aunt talked him into using it until the speech therapist got there today. Gm#2 says that gd#2 has agreed to keep using it a little longer. Physical therapy came by and said that he didn't really need the physical therapy. (We knew that but couldn't convince the hospital of it.) The nurse is supposed to come out and check his PT tomorrow.
I've gotten a few presents wrapped. I got quite a few more to go. More baking, cooking and cleaning on the agenda. I need to get to the nursing home before granddaddy #1 and daddy run out of clean clothes. Grandmama #1 and I have a hair appt tomorrow and she looks forward to that. I haven't rescheduled the hair appt that gm#2 cancelled yet. I just can't bring myself to do it. Very bad granddaughter!!
I called the VA to see what kind of benefits gd#2 can get. It doesn't look promising. If he was in a nursing home like gd#1, he'd be home free. Sigh. It sucks that you have to be too damn sick to enjoy an extra dollar.
I'm getting kind of tired at this point. I'll have to rant about Social Security next. LOL
Night ya'll
