And baaaaaaaaack down to the emergency room we go.
This one really got my dander up. Not at the hospital but at the nursing home.
On Friday, grandmama and I visited, bringing along clean clothes. As I stated in my previous post, my great aunt biddy and her husband were there. I won't go back on that one. Anyway, I noticed granddaddy's arm was swollen from the elbow down to his fingers on his left arm. I immediately told the nurse about it, saying that I though it was a nasty case of the gout. I did ask her to wait until my great uncle and great aunt were gone before checking it.
Later that evening, I went out with my friend. My husband called to let me know there was a msg on the answering machine to call the nursing home. I called and was told that it wasn't an emergency, just a note about a change in his 'orders' (his meds). Breathing a sigh of relief, I told my friend that I didn't have to run off to the ER but had this feeling that I'd end up there anyway before the night was over.
Did I mention that once in a while I just get these premonitions? LOL
12:12am I get the call from the nh that they are transporting granddaddy post haste to the ER due to pain in his left arm. Oh for the love of pete! It's just gout! I know it's painful and yucky but it's not a middle-of-the-night-emergency-room-run.
I managed to get an hour's worth of sleep before the call. That was a plus.
After getting to the ER, they did several x-rays and an ultrasound of the arm and shoulder. It showed no blood clots. They diagnosed it as gout. Geeeeeezzzzzzz, what was I thinking?
He got back to the nh about 5:00am. Not too bad or at least not as bad at the last time.
I got to go back to bed for a few hours on Sat. I even got a little candy made (white choc pretzels!).
All seemed well until........
